YWAM Dallas!
I have been working with YWAM Dallas for over a month now and I love it! We have two church services a week for the children. We go all around the neighborhood picking children up and bringing them for the services. On Monday's we feed the entire group. We do praise and worship, offering, ( the children are raising money to give to Operation Christmas Child), preach, and then break into small groups for application. We really teach the kids about the Bible, and how to apply it to their lives. We will be having Thanksgiving dinner for the kids as well.
Here are some of the children attending the "Homework Club". We started this club with one child, and it has grown to up to 10 kids coming every afternoon for help with their homework. When they come for 8 days they are rewarded with a trip to McDonalds! Many of these kids are one or more grades behind, and cannot pass the T.A.K.S. test. Our goal is to offer a place of serious learning and abundant love!
Our latest service we were teaching the kid's about being courageous and not giving in to fear. We had Fear Factor Night! The children had to go through several "dangerous places" They had to reach into the "big bag of bugs", cross the "shaky bridge of troubled waters", go through the "dark, lonely tunnel of despair" and finally eat the "eyeballs of alligators!" (does that remind anyone of Kyrgyzstan?) The kids were screaming with excitements, all wanting to be chosen to do these dangerous feats! It was so much fun!
These young men ( and several more) live at the YWAM base in a house called Timothy House. These young guys come from every background, and live here, being taught and discipled to live for Christ. On the left is George, who lives on the base because his father will not allow him to live at home. He is 17 years old. The middle guy is Juan, a young man originally from Mexico. He is attending college. On the right is Mao. He is Cambodian by birth. He was entrenched in drugs and gang warfare, sentenced to jail, and then miraculously released after he have his life to Christ. I have attached his entire story if you would like to read it. The joy on their faces really tell the story of their hearts. It is a joy to know them.
Stories of Y Dallas:
Richard got into my car and said to me. "You are so rich Miss." I laughed and asked him why he thought that I was rich. He said: "Because look at all the gas you have in your tank." I was shocked. Having a full tank of gas is being rich!
Another of our families had to move out of their home because they could not make the payments. They moved close to us and the teenagers had to come to the base and shower because they had no electricity and the water heater was broken. Then they started coming to eat because they said the fridge is broken and all the food spoils.
Prayer requests:
That more and more children will find the Lord, and find hope.
We are praying for increase. Of children, anointing, finances, help.
Pray for our Christmas Outreach. That everything will be done and it will be a blessing to the families of the children and to the children themselves.
I love you all, and you know that nothing could be done without your love, prayers and support. I am so grateful for the work the Lord is doing through you!
Bless you! Barbara
